Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF):

PRP and PRF are safe autologous products. Both pose a lower risk of rejection,  since it is derived from a patient's own blood. PRP/PRF is a concentrated source of growth, and cellular signaling, factors that play a significant role in the biology of healing.

 

Both PRP and PRF procedures require a blood draw, although PRF requires a lesser amount.

PRP is then spun at a higher speed in the centrifuge, which causes the heavier cells in the blood, the stem cells and white blood cells to collect in the bottom part of the test tube, while the platelets and plasma collect in the upper part. The platelets and plasma are collected and injected into the areas of injury, collagen depletion, or hair thinning. 

​

Research is showing that even higher concentrations of platelets, as well as a concentration of white blood cells and stem cells are a more effective mix. That’s what PRF delivers. To create PRF the blood is spun at a lower speed so that the layers of the blood do not separate out as distinctly. This allows some of the white blood cells and stem cells to remain within the platelet layer, instead of being separated. This gives PRF more healing factors than PRP. Plus, the lower centrifuge speed causes less trauma with the individual cells involved.

The final concentration of platelets in PRP and PRF also differs. PRP ends with 2 to 5 times the level of platelets found in normal blood. Higher concentrations are more effective, and PRF contains approximately 10 times the platelet concentration when compared with normal blood.

​

In the end, PRF does not contain any additives, whereas an anticoagulant is used during the processing of the blood when making PRP. Without the anticoagulant, PRF takes the natural fibrinogen within our blood and it is converted to fibrin by thrombin in the early stages of clot formation. This creates a spongy fibrin matrix that activates the platelets that acts as a scaffolding to keep the growth factors and stem cells in the area they are injected.

What is traditional Microneedling?

Microneedling (without the PRP) is a minimally invasive treatment that involves puncturing the skin with fine needles to promote collagen production. Microneedling is not just exclusive to the face.

The procedure can be performed on “all areas of the face, neck, décolletage and hands."

What is PRP and how does it work?

The treatment is a combination of a microdermabrasion, followed by the application of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), the PRP is derived from the serum portion of the blood, which contains platelets. The platelets contain high levels of growth factors, which, when applied to the skin, will stimulate cell turnover.

​

What are some of the most notable benefits?

This treatment is primarily used to address skin texture and stimulate collagen formation, the vampire facial is also a great remedy for acne or surgical scars because it breaks up scar tissue bands and stimulates deeper healing.

What can someone expect the day of and after their treatment?

The patient is numbed for 30–45 minutes with a lidocaine cream that goes on the skin.

While the patient is numbing, about 11mL of blood is drawn, which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the red blood cells. Once the skin has been prepared appropriately, the microneedling begins.

The entire procedure takes roughly about one hour from check in to completion. 

You don’t wash the PRP off your face until the next morning, this allows the PRP to continue to heal the skin.

 

When will I notice results?

You’ll notice a healthy glow after the first few days,

but complete results take about 4-6 weeks once full collagen remodeling has taken place.

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure specifically designed to treat small to medium-sized varicose and spider veins.

A provider injects a special solution (Asclera OR hypertonic saline) directly into the affected veins.

This solution then acts on the inner lining of the vein causing it to irritate and swell shut, which then stops the flow of blood. Over time, the treated vein turns into scar tissue and gradually fades from view.

Sclerotherapy has been used for decades and refined over the years, making it a trusted choice for doctors and patients.

 

The initial consultation is scheduled for 30min-1hr to equip Sandy Henry, PA-C the time for medical consultation

and review/exam to determine the appropriate candidates for the procedure.

She will also utilize the consultation to inform and educate on the expectations pre and post procedure, prepare the patient on stockings/garments needed, time away from work or activities/travel/swimming, etc (if any). 

After sclerotherapy, most people can return to their daily activities almost immediately.

The beauty of sclerotherapy lies in its simplicity and efficiency.

It’s a non-surgical technique, which means it’s less invasive than other procedures.

Usually, it’s done in a doctor’s office and doesn’t require anesthesia.

After the initial consultation appt, the entire surgical/injection process can take as little as

15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of veins being treated. If the patient prefers same day injection, coupled with their consultation, please inform the HH Med Staff when scheduling, so we can make this available.

 

The procedure has a good success rate, with many patients seeing significant improvement in the appearance

of veins and a reduction in associated symptoms, such as aching, burning, swelling and leg-cramping.​
